Level 1 Training Program Pilot

Thank you for your interest in the Level 1 Training Program pilot launched on January 20th, 2020.

As communicated at the time of launch, the application process would be open until February 17th or until all the spots are full. Given significant interest in the pilot, no further applications will be accepted at this time pending assessment for eligibility.
 

 

Up to 40 eligible individuals can apply to participate in a pilot project to obtain the coursework they need to be eligible for a Level 1 classification with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD).


The pilot begins March 16, 2020 and participants will take courses, online, during the 2020 spring, fall, and 2021 winter semesters. For additional information about the Pilot please see: Backgrounder


The program is designed to overcome challenges qualified individuals may face in choosing to enter post-secondary training. Please see What we Heard for more information on the recommendations that informed this project.

 

How do I apply to the pilot?

Step 1: Pilot Application

Eligibility

You are eligible to submit a Pilot application if:

  • You are NOT enrolled in any formal post-secondary education program or course on date of application to the Pilot.
     
  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent.
     
  • You are employed in Nova Scotia by a licenced child care facility or in a Pre-primary Program.
     
  • Your employment position is untrained, or Entry Level AND you work a minimum of 15 hours per week.
     
  • Your employer is in support of your participation in the Pilot and agrees to provide you a minimum of 15 hours per week for the duration of the Pilot.

Step 2: Apply to Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC)

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply to NSCC if:

  • You submitted a Pilot Application to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development

AND

  • you received conformation you are approved as a Pilot Candidate.
Please check with NSCC regarding eligibility for admission to the Level 1 Training Program.
 

Steps

Upon receiving approval as Pilot Candidate:

  • contact NSCC at ECElevel1pilot@nscc.ca for instructions on submitting an application to the Level 1 Training Program.

Apply for admission to the Level 1 Training Program.

  • Include your high school transcripts and any other required information.
