Nova Scotia Early Hiring Job Fair 2010

Representatives from the Nova Scotia Department of Education and the eight Nova Scotia school boards are organizing an Early Hiring Job Fair for Bachelor of Education students who are graduating from Nova Scotia universities in the 2009–10 academic year.

This is one of the first opportunities for Nova Scotia School Boards to hire for the next school year. School boards will hire teachers for the 2010–11 school year, through September 2010.

Early hiring job fairs will be held at:

  • Université Sainte-Anne : January 7, 2010
  • Acadia University : January 12-13, 2010
  • Mount Saint Vincent: January 14-15, 2010
  • Cape Breton University: January 20, 2010
  • St. Francis Xavier University : January 21-22, 2010

The job fairs will facilitate the early hiring of teachers for the 2010–11 school year, particularly in areas such as math, French language (Immersion, French First Language and Core French), physics, physical education, fine arts, and family studies.

Application Process

Graduating B.Ed. students at the participating universities will receive an application form (English and French) from their faculty.

The application form asks students to select the school boards where they wish to be considered for employment. A copy of the student’s completed application form and supporting documents will be sent to these school boards.

School boards will review the application forms and select the students they would like to interview. Leading up to the job fair, students will be informed of any interviews that will take place during the early hiring job fair at their university.

Students who are unable to attend the job fair will still find it valuable to submit an application form. School boards will retain these applications for future hiring.

Deadline

The deadline to receive applications is November 13, 2009.

Late applications will not be considered for interviews.

Please return the completed application form with a copy of your résumé, unofficial transcripts, and student teaching field reports (if available) to:

What will happen at the Job Fair

Each job fair will comprise of an opening reception and a scheduled set of interviews.

At the reception, Department of Education officials will speak about the importance of the Early Hiring Job Fair to students and school boards.

The reception will also provide a valuable opportunity to meet informally with representatives from the school boards, the Nova Scotia Registrar of Teacher Certification, the Nova Scotia Teachers Union, and the Teachers Plus Credit Union.

It is recommended that all students, including those who are not selected for an interview with a school board, attend the reception because school boards will want to meet all graduating Bachelor of Education students, and will provide information on employment opportunities that will occur later in the year.
