serves as the conduit between the Department of Education and the province’s aboriginal partners, through the Council on Mi’kmaq Education, the Tripartite Forum Education Working Group, the Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey Education Working Group, and others
works in partnership with the province’s Mi’kmaq community, under advice of the Council on Mi’kmaq Education, to improve department services to aboriginal learners
oversees the Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey (MK) Agreement, and advocates for the needs of aboriginal learners in the province
works with MK to provide services to teachers and administrators in band-operated schools, and with the branch through professional development and curriculum and resource development to promote the inclusion of Mi’kmaq content and perspectives in the Public School Program
provides services to Mi’kmaw and other Aboriginal learners in the province at all levels of education including post-secondary, adult and life-long learning
