The resources listed below are products of, or provided by, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

Authorized Learning Resources / NS School Book Bureau

This system gives educators access to the catalogue of resources approved for classroom use. Educators may log in, gather resources into a shopping cart, and submit the order online as a request for purchase.

    Digital Video Library

    The Digital Video Library provides Teachers in Nova Scotia access to Professional Development video resources. Videos can be viewed online, downloaded from the website, or a copy can be ordered from the Media Library.

    Distributed Learning

    Distributed Learning programs provide online high school courses to students enrolled in public high schools in Nova Scotia through the Nova Scotia Virtual School (NSVS) and the Nova Scotia Independent Online Learning (NSIOL) program.

    All Distributed Learning courses use the Nova Scotia Public School Program (PSP) with curriculum and learning outcomes that are identical to those used in a classroom at school.

    EBSCO

    Online periodical database with full text articles from Canadian and international newspapers and magazines. Includes access to Canadian Reference Centre Select, Gage Canadian Dictionary, a professional collection and an interface for younger and middle school students. IP authenticated to sites within the EDnet network.

    GNSPES Account

    Students, teachers and staff in Nova Scotia's public schools can use their GNSPES account to access a variety of tools and resources.  These resources include Google Workspace for Education.

    INSchool - NS Student Information System

    A provincial system that manages core student information - such as demographics, attendance, behaviour, achievement and schedules. Provides links for login to PowerSchool and PowerTeacher.

    Nova Scotia International Student Program (NSISP)

    Come learn English, study in a public school, live with a host family, and make friendships to last a life time!

    Since 1997, the Nova Scotia International Student Program has welcomed students from around the world into homes across Nova Scotia. Students range in age from 8-18 years old and stay anywhere from one month to one year.

    Provincial eLearning Commons

    The Provincial eLearning Commons site is a provincial online learning platform, providing online delivery of courses, ability for teachers to create blended learning spaces as extensions of their classroom and professional development resources.

    Shakespeare Online (Grades 10 - 12)

    As part of the Literacy Success literacy project. Education Program services is pleased to provide the multimedia resource, Oxford Publishing's Shakespeare Online. The online version includes access to Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth and Midsummer Night's Dream.

    Teacher Certification

    A valid Nova Scotia Teachers' Certificate is required in order to be employed as a teacher in the Nova Scotia public school system. 

    This site provides critical information related to the certification process, teaching standards, teaching service and salaries, appeals, and legislation. All forms related to teacher certification can be located on this site. An online payment service is available for some fee based services.
