Free Job Preparation Skills for Youth

It is not always easy to find employment, especially for today’s youth. The YMCA has a history of responding to the needs of the unemployed and underemployed Canadians, especially youth, by providing much needed employment programs to address some of the barriers in entering the labour market. The YMCA of Southwest Nova Scotia and SchoolsPlus, is offering a free program to assist youth in grades 9-12, to develop job readiness skills. The curriculum will cover important topics such as: working with a team; how to overcome barriers; respect in the workplace goal setting; diversity and social inclusiveness; positive choice making; cover letter and resume preparation; job interview skills; relaxation techniques; resources and helpful tools available to youth entering the workforce; and the benefits of volunteering.
