Community-Based Learning can improve and enrich their personal development, sense of belonging and understanding of community roles and responsibilities.
Learning becomes a partnership between students, families, schools, and communities, with each partner sharing responsibility for the experience. With programs available in elementary, junior high and high school, students gain real world experiences and apply knowledge and skills learned in school.
Goals of Community-Based Learning:
- provide opportunities for students’ personal growth
- enhance students’ development as citizens who actively participate in and contribute positively to their local communities
- help prepare students for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult and working life
- foster, promote, and develop student self-esteem and confidence
